Texas cotton country faces a water constraint
NASA’s 8 October account compares September satellite views of the Texas High Plains. Drier fields and playa lakes around Lubbock illustrate the strain of drought on cotton country. Irrigation depends on a declining aquifer; some growers concentrate water on only part of their land. This is evidence of a local production constraint, not a new estimate of national cotton output.
